Plant Physiology

Sequence of Expressions

Water is pulled up through the xylem of plants due to transpiration at the leaves creating negative pressure (tension) and the cohesive properties of water molecules.
Dissolved sugars flow from sources (leaves) to sinks (roots/fruits) driven by a pressure gradient generated by osmosis.
A life cycle in which there is both a multicellular diploid form (sporophyte) and a multicellular haploid form (gametophyte).
